Updates of Trip! #1

I finally got the pictures and video upload onto my computer so I'll try to go thru our trip with pictures!

These are pictures from Point Du Hoc, which is where Army Rangers had to scale cliffs on the beach in order to take out German guns that were in bunkers.  They tried to bomb the guns but in order to take them out it had to be a direct hit.  This is a picture of one of the many bomb holes that were made when they tried to take out the guns.  Holes like this were all over the area.

This is the cliff they had to scale, as they were being shot at!  Unbelievably, they were able to get thru and take out the guns.
One of the many symbols of thanks throughout this area from the French people.
You'll see me in this blue jacket a lot!  It was cold most days and it was the only jacket I had!  Paula Corder gave me a pink sweater jacket before they left to go home to use the rest of the trip.  Thanks Paula!
The American Cemetery in France that has over 9000 graves of US service men and women, plus the Wall of the Missing.  The movie "Saving Private Ryan" is based on a family of 4 brothers who served in WWII.  Two of the brothers are buried here.
Here is a video of Rob getting to help fold the American Flag.
Our last night before we boarded the ship. Dinner in Bell Il, where we were staying, with David Spence and Ash Ashburn.  Yes, this is my dinner!  It was a seafood shish-ka-bob!

We did not eat here, but I took the picture for Marie!

The last day before we boarded the ship we saw another WWII Museum showed a video about the temporary port that the Americans built in order to get supplies, etc. onto the shores of France.  They could not use any of the ports in France because the Germans had them.  It was an amazing feat that was accomplished building this temporary port which was out at sea.

After that we went to a French town called Honfleur which is very picturesque.  Many Impressionist painters captured this city.

And that is all for now!  Will post more tomorrow! Au revoir!
